Integral Leadership and the Integral City

Join me when I present at an online conference on the future of the City, organised by Marilyn Hamilton. A central theme of the conference is the role of business, as one of the core stakeholders of cities, and part of the lifeblood of the city. http://www.integralcitycollective.com/fe/27589-about-the-conference

I will be talking about integral, participatory and distributed leadership as one of the critical enablers to creating a viable future. In particular I will focus on the twenty-somethings, those now entering the workforce, who will be retiring in 2050; the line in the sand adopted by many as the deadline to achieve sustainability! About how many of these intuitively lead very differently, intuitively transcend all current boundaries to do what’s right. (Read more in my blog on the knowledge meshworker, or 1% knowledge worker, here.)

One of the changes coming our way over the next 40 years, on our journey to 2050, is likely to be a rise in importance of the city, and local regions, again. If you look at the covenant of Mayors on sustainability, the worlds leading cities are clearly more able than any of the national governments to agree on what to do together to tackle climate change.

You also see this in the devolution happening in various European countries, like the UK, with more and more power shifting to the regions.

I’ve already covered here how business will play a significant role in creating a sustainable future. Because business can be more able to agree at a global level on action to create a sustainable future than nation states are, since global business by its very nature has global accountability. Something which nation states lack.

So the role of leadership, cities and business in creating 2050, the future we want, is critical! (And clearly we need to be fast and effective in transferring the behaviours of the top performers in integral, participatory, distributed leadership; my current focus, read more here!)

Join the conference to engage with some of the world’s leading practioners in this space, including people like Don Beck, Ken Wilber and many more.
